Support local journalism today

Local news providers play a crucial role in our lives. They keep us informed about what's happening in our neighborhoods, schools and local government. They hold institutions accountable and shine a light on issues that matter to us personally.

By donating to Mahoning Matters Impact Journalism Fund, you invest in the well-being of Youngstown, Ohio and surrounding counties. Your tax-deductible contribution ensures that stories are told, voices are heard, and truth prevails. In an era of information overload, local journalism provides the vital context we need to navigate our lives.

Empower our community

Your gift to the Mahoning Matters Impact Journalism Fund enables us to expand reporting that informs residents about critical issues. It helps us to give greater voice to communities, and it broadens our ability to explore potential solutions to pressing community problems.

For more than 100 years, the Miami Herald / el Nuevo Herald has enriched South Florida’s democracy and served our local community. We connect our diverse communities through our websites, newsletters, video and the social media platforms.

The business fundamentals that long supported journalism have shifted, hampering our ability to provide the crucial, factual news on which we all rely. We know that our community needs more news, investigations and verified reporting than we now can provide.

To meet that need, we are partnering with individuals, foundations and corporations to expand coverage. The newsroom retains editorial control of all content.

Tax-deductible contributions to the Miami Herald Impact Journalism Fund at the Miami Foundation currently support two investigative reporting fellows, two climate reporters, a faith reporter and an arts reporter.

Our next goal: a highly skilled journalist to focus exclusively on the region’s affordability crisis and strategies for increasing economic opportunity for all.

Please help us better serve our community with a tax-deductible gift to the Miami Herald Impact Journalism Fund. Donations of any size help us increase our impact.

Our track record

Mahoning Matters is the only free daily regional source in Mahoning County when it comes to local news/sports outside of TV. In a state hit hard by the rapid decline of local newspapers, we have committed to bringing important daily news to Youngstown and surrounding areas. Our goal is to continue investment in the community, and we can do that with your help and community partnerships.

We aim to fairly report on undercovered topics and hold powerful people and institutions to account. Actively seeking insights from readers, we explore narratives that may go unnoticed. Our goal is to provide valuable and easily understandable information to assist Mahoning Valley residents in navigating their lives, especially during crises. Promoting transparency in local and state governments, our aim is to provide informative reporting that has a positive impact on the Mahoning Valley.
